Opening to the public next June 16 in Carrara, at Palazzo Cucchiari headquarters of the Giorgio Conti Foundation, is the exhibition Colori e forme del lavoro <\/em><\/strong>.From Signorini and Fattori to Pellizza da Volpedo and Balla <\/em>. <\/p>\n

The exhibition, conceived and promoted by the Giorgio Conti Foundation<\/strong> and curated by Massimo Bertozzi <\/strong>and Ettore Spalletti<\/strong>, is dedicated to the representation of the world of work in Italian art between the Unification of Italy and the Great War.<\/p>\n

More than fifty works, from Italian public and private collections, are on display, ranging from Macchiaiola painting through Verismo and Symbolist suggestions to the first signs of the avant-garde: from Fattori<\/strong> to Morbelli<\/strong>, from Signorini<\/strong> to Pellizza da Volpedo<\/strong>, present here with a large preparatory drawing of the Fourth Estate,<\/em> from Vincenzo Vela<\/strong>, on view with the Monument to Labor Victims, <\/em> to pre-futurist Giacomo Balla<\/strong>, the exhibition project aims to verify how in the practice of painting, the Italian realist and verist movement in the decades following the political unification of the nation gives field to a profound thematic and formal renewal, without losing sight of the social background and the profound cultural transformations in which the image of the “new Italy” is being defined.<\/p>\n

The images of the people become indifferently a motif of denunciation and the origin of new and different poetic suggestions, and the figuration of Italian art becomes crowded with common people: poor, peasants, the elderly and workers in their different expressions of humility, need, but also of claiming their own identity, of enfranchisement, then of anger, of organization and of protest and struggle.<\/p>\n

To tell the story of all this, the exhibition will be divided into seven sections, devoted to: domestic work, work in the fields, work at sea and in the rivers, trade, work in workshops and factories, work in mines and quarries, and social conditions.<\/p>\n
